Gas Fitter Merewether

Merewether Plumbing Co handles gas fitting across Merewether and the neighbouring beachside suburbs: appliance installs, new gas lines, leak detection and repair. Licensed plumbers and gas fitters quote up front, and the work is tested and certified before we leave. Ring (02) 4063 1093 or send the form.

Gas jobs sit alongside everything else we do here, from drain clears to hot water replacements, and they run through the same team on the same rounds.

The Gas Jobs We Take On

Gas work here splits into four kinds of job:

Indoor appliances

A cooker or heater going in, coming out or moving across the room

Outdoor points

BBQs, patio heaters and pool or spa heaters, where the coast is hardest on the gear

The pipework itself

New runs and re-routes for renovations, capping a line that is no longer used, and tracing leaks with gas detectors

Gas hot water

New units connected to the line and tested before they fire

If your job involves a hot water system rather than a kitchen or outdoor appliance, the hot water hub has the unit side of it in detail.

Why Does Gas Work Need a Licensed Fitter?

Gas is the one trade where a bad job doesn't drip, it ignites. A water fitting done badly leaves a puddle you can mop up. A gas fitting done badly lets gas build in a closed room, and that is a different order of problem.

The law puts gas work in the hands of licensed gas fitters for exactly that reason, and we test every line we touch before signing it off. Handymen and appliance retailers can't legally connect or alter a gas line, and insurance claims have a habit of falling over when one did.

What Shapes the Cost of a Gas Job?

"Not only all of that but the job came in right on quote." Steve

That matters most on gas work, because a quote given after the wall is opened is a quote you can't shop around. What moves the figure:

  • Access to the line A cooker swap in an open kitchen is a different job from a run under a tight pre-war cottage floor.
  • Length and material of the run Extending an existing copper line costs less than pulling a new one through double brick.
  • The appliance itself A bayonet point for a BBQ is a smaller job than a pool heater feed.
  • After-hours attendance It costs nothing to get us out to your door (excluding after-hours).

Merewether Gas Fitting Services

Two gas jobs get their own page, with the full method and pricing detail:

Gas appliance installation

** cooktops, ovens, BBQs, patio and pool heaters, fitted by licensed gas fitters and commissioned on site. We confirm the line can carry the appliance before anything comes out of its box, and the price lands before the work starts.

Gas leak detection and repair

** a gas smell inside or near the meter is a right-now problem. That page walks through the safety steps first, then how we trace the leak with gas detectors and fix the line.

Sea Breeze and the Fittings Outside

The coast changes how gas gear ages. Homes near Merewether Ocean Baths and the beachfront blocks cop constant salt-laden air, and it corrodes outdoor bayonet points, regulators and exposed pipe well ahead of anything sitting a few streets back.

So the same BBQ point gets treated differently here. We use fittings that hold up in coastal air, and we inspect the existing run rather than assume it's sound, because a line that passed a test five years ago may not pass one now.

From Isolation to Certification

Every gas job runs the same way, whatever the appliance:

  1. 01

    Isolate and inspect

The supply comes off, and the existing line, appliance and connections get checked before anything moves.

  2. 02

    Quote before work

You hear the full figure for the job, and nothing starts until you agree to it.

  3. 03

    Install or repair

The work is done with the right fittings for the location, coastal-rated where the sea air reaches.

  4. 04

    Test and certify

Pressure goes back on, every joint is checked for leaks, and you get the compliance paperwork before we pack up.

When a Gas Smell Means Right Now

Gas you can smell indoors is not a booking, it's an evacuation. Do not flick switches or light flames, and don't wait for the smell to clear on its own.

Get everyone outside, open doors and windows on the way if you can, and call the gas network's emergency line from outside. Once the network has made the site safe, ring (02) 4063 1093 and we find the fault with gas detectors and fix it. The full sequence is on the gas leaks page.

Where a Gas Job Isn't Ours

Sometimes we're not the right call, and we'd rather say so than take your money for the wrong trade. An electric oven swap or a fault inside an appliance's electrical side belongs with an electrician, not a gas fitter.

Everything else. See what Merewether Plumbing Co covers.

Likewise, if a fault in the gas network's side of the meter turns up, that's the network's to fix, and we'll point you to them.

Questions We Get About Gas Work

Can you install a gas BBQ on a deck near the Merewether Ocean Baths?

Yes. Salt-laden wind off the water chews exposed bayonet points and regulators years sooner than inland conditions, so we fit gear rated for the coast and pressure test the old line first. The quote covers the fittings, the line test and the connection.

Do you handle gas work in strata and rental properties?

Yes. Tenants get confirmation and pre-arrival messages, and owners or agents receive photos and detailed invoices for every job. Gas work in shared blocks is documented so the paperwork stands up at inspection time.

Is a suspected gas leak an after-hours job?

Treat any gas smell as urgent at any hour. Get everyone outside, do not flick switches or light flames, and call the gas network's emergency line first. Once the site is safe with the network, we handle the trace and the repair.

Do you connect gas hot water systems in local homes?

Yes. We install and connect gas storage and continuous-flow units, check the existing line can carry the load, and test everything before the unit goes live. If the old unit still has life in it, you keep it.
